HISTORY OF MARTIN MEMORIAL AME CHURCH
Martin memorial was founded ibn a model home in Richmond Heights on October 19, 1951. The church’s original name was Mt. Pleasant AME Church because the members felt that Richmond Heights was a pleasant place to worship. In 1957, we marched up Carver Drive to our new home on Lincoln Blvd. The tract of the land that the church stands on was donated to the AME Church by the late Captain Frank C. Martin. In 1954, we received our charter from the General Church and Mt. Pleasant was changed to Martin Memorial AME Church as a tribute to the late Captain Frank C. Martin who conceived and founded the community of Richmond heights. This name was submitted by the late Mrs. Mary James.
Martin Memorial has become a major ministry in Miami specializing in spiritual health, wellness and healing to individuals and families. Martin’s membership has grown to well over 2,000 and continues to spread throughout facets of South Florida. Here at Martin, our mission is to lead the world back to the family of God by preaching, teaching and living the love, faith and power of Jesus Christ. We are a Christ centered ministry whose goal and focus is to put people in touch with the love of a saving God. Our ministries are intentional and holistic as we seek to develop disciples for the kingdom. We offer 30 ministries by which individuals can become connected as they develop on their spiritual journey. Our worship experience is electrifying and caters to believers who seek the face of God. Here at Martin, there is something for everyone.
Our Worship times are 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Our 7:30 experience gives traditional worshippers an opportunity to find peace and adoration for God through sacred music and liturgy that cultivates spiritual growth. While our 10:30 worship experience is seeker sensitive and provides a wide array of contemporary worship ideas. Praise dance, mime, congas, guitars, organs, saxophone, hip hop dance are all a part of our worship experience as the Holy Spirit excites and enthuse worshippers in the spirit of charisma. Every moment at Martin is packed with motivation, inspiration and Godly momentum. At our church, you won’t want to miss a moment. The preached word is brought forth every Sunday by our prophetic leader who addresses relevant issues in the context of biblical focus. Once you have heard a prophetic message from God through the Reed team, your life can never be the same. For children, we have an explosive youth experience called CLUB church (Children Leading Unlike Before). We have women’s ministry, men’s bible study, praise team, seniors’ ministry and a ministry for laity. Whatever you are looking for to enhance your walk for God, you can find at the “Purple Church”.
The future of the Purple Church is bright for those who are covenant members of this fellowship of believers; thaw half has not been told what we shall become. As a key ministry of this community, we believe that we are the heart that pumps life into Richmond heights and greater surrounding areas. The church is currently in the process of raising capital in order to build a multi-faceted facility that will be known as the ANVIL Life Center. In this facility, thousands of people will come to receive resources and services to help increase their quality of life. Currently, Martin Memorial sits on about 5.5 acres between the sanctuary and undeveloped property. The future vision is to develop a 2-3 story commercial building incubator and residential units. We believe this building will attract entrepreneurs from everywhere who seek to give birth to resources, goods and services to the surrounding community.
At the far western border of our facility on Dunbar Street sits a building that once served as the first dental offices of our community. Because of community partnership, the building was remodeled by JB Enterprises in order to better serve the community as a sandwich shop and banquet hall. This is the first of several facilities that will be erected on the campus to drive the economic and social environment on and around our campus. On the south side of Dunbar, in what is commonly known as our sanctuary and the annex, there is a 5-7 year plan to erect a new sanctuary that will seat no less than 1,000 worshippers with several classrooms and ministry oriented space. These projects are all a part of the Martin dream vision, for by faith, all things are possible. As we continue to grow, with God’s help we pray that all of our members will be connected to relative ministries for their families, their homes and their future; and, those who are considering a church, our prayer is that we will be one of the top choices of consideration as we strive to provide excellence in ministry to the community.
